United Nations Climate Change goals in sight!

With contributions from China, other nations and now hopefully the US since Biden is the president-elect, the expert analysis says that the goals of the UN Paris Climate Agreement are now within reach.

Paris Agreement Key Dates

However the only issue with the agreement is the timescale in which their actions will take place.

In September this year, China's president Xi Jinping stated that the country will attain net carbon emissions of zero by 2060. Unfortunately for us though, China's emissions will peak before 2030.

Will this be quick enough to halt the already almost irreversible on-coming change?

Thankfully, it looks like a lot of other Nations are also doing their part!

The UK, Canada, Costa Rica, France, New Zealand (Greenhouse gases - with the exception of biogenic methane), South Korea, Japan and many other countries have stated that they will reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Sweden, Scotland and a few others by 2045.

Parts of Iceland will be carbon neutral by 2040.

Norway's PM has proposed to go carbon neutral by 2050 and has advocated other countries to follow suit.

Top nations leading the fight on climate change, ranked on the Climate Change Performance Index are:

  1. Denmark
  2. United Kingdom
  3. Portugal
  4. Sweden
  5. Switzerland
  6. Malta
  7. France
  8. Hungary
  9. Ireland
  10. Iceland
